OGUNLANA, RAMINBA CONDEMNS POLICE BRUTALITY AND ABUSE OF POWER AGAINST IBANGAH GOODNESS ESQ AND CONDOLES WITH ILORIN BAR OVER OMOLARA ADETUTU ALUKO

Ogunlana Adesina Ademola, the Chairman of Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association and presidential aspirant in the forthcoming 2020 national elections of the Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the police brutality meted out to  a female lawyer in.Enugu , ENUGU State, Ibangah Goodness Esq. in the conduct of her work as a Legal Officer with WACOL.

This was made known in a statement issued by Ayo Ademiluyi, the Secretary of Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association and Director of Media, Strategy, Publicity and Communications of RadicalBar2020.

According to
the report credited to  Professor Joy Ngozi Ezeilo (OON) on the horrendous brutality meted on a female lawyer, Ibangah Goodness, Esq, she  was reportedly beaten to a state of near unconsciousness by men believed to be officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Enugu while in the line of her duty at WACOL, a Non-Governmental Organisation in Enugu.


Mr. Ogunlana expressed the need to reposition the Nigerian Bar Association to engage police brutality holistically by uprooting the basis of it , which is the mis-governance of the country by the forces in power.


In a related development, Mr. Ogunlana has expressed condolences with the Ilorin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association for the demise of Omolara ADETUTU ALUKO, the  Vice-Chairperson of the Branch.

OGUNLANA, RAMINBA CONDEMNS ABDUCTION OF ETTAH URI UKAGU ESQ., REITERATES #RADICAL AGENDA AS WAY FORWARD FOR THE BAR

Ogunlana Adesina Ademola , Chairman of the Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the abduction of yet another colleague, Mr. Ettah Eri Ukagu, Esq, of the NBA Calabar Branch.

In a statement issued by Ayo Ademiluyi, the Secretary of Radical Agenda Movement in. the Nigerian Bar Association and Director of Media, Strategy, Publicity and Communications of Radical Bar 2020,
Mr. Ukagu, Esq. was said to have been abducted on Thursday 30th day of January, 2020 at about 10:00pm in Calabar metropolis by unknown gunmen and his whereabouts is still unknown!

Mr. Ogunlana, who is currently in Jalingo to solidarise with another recently released colleague, Zainab Kishimi is of the view that permanent solution and end to the ugly scenario of kidnapping is by uprooting the social malaise which is behind it- mass unemployment amidst vast resources.

Mr. Ogunlana reiterated his Radical Agenda to the Nigerian Bar Association to lead the Association, if entrusted with the prime leadership of the Bar in its battle against the ruinous forces in power holding down the country by the straits.

As at press time, it has been confirmed that he is Jalingo and will be attending an Emergency Jalingo Branch Meeting , scheduled for today, Tuesday, 4th February, 2020 ,  convened to discuss the ordeals of Zainab Kishimi, the Vice-Chairman of the Branch , who was recently released from. the den of kidnappers.

We of the Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association strongly condemn the
inhuman, unscientific and insensitive imposition of ban on Okada (motorcycles) and Maruwa (tricycles) by the Lagos State Government.

We are of the view that it is unscientific on the part of the Lagos State Government to impose such a ban at the face of terrible state of the network of inner roads in Lagos State, which the Okada and Maruwa ply on daily basis to relieve huge number of Lagosians of the stress of getting to their destinations.

While we welcome multi-pronged approach to transportation in Lagos State including but not limited to water and rail transportation, this must be done systematically in a way that voluntarily discourages use of Okadas and Maruwas and not by forceful elimination of the Okada and Maruwa drivers.

It is clear that many of the riders of Okada and Maruwa are unemployed graduates who took to the profession at the face of absence of industries and near collapse of the power sector that can engender small businesses.

We are of the view that Okada and Maruwa drivers constitute a reflection of the primitive State that the ruling elite has left production and services in the country. With massive  creation of jobs through State investment in industrialization, a vast layer of current Okada and Maruwa drivers will voluntarily abandon the profession and be absorbed into active production.

Therefore, without providing these solutions, the ban is more or less artificial and scratching the problems on the surface. The ban has thrown thousands of drivers who eke daily bread from driving Maruwa and Okada into unemployment.

It is in this wise that the demand for reversal becomes an immediate demand. We condemn the bloody repression of protesters who are rejecting ban, mainly Okada and Maruwa drivers in different parts of Lagos State.

We call for arrest  and prosecution of police officers who opened live gunfire on protesters at Ijora in particular.

We are aghast at the argument of Lagos State Government that it has purchased 65 new buses as palliative. It begs reason to assume that a mere 65 new buses will cater for the huge population of Lagosians, battling to get to their destinations daily.

The result is already everywhere to see. Thousands of Lagosians were stranded at different bus stops as the ban on Okada and Maruwa bites harder. They became prey to Shylock bus drivers who doubled their fares to milk hapless Lagosians.

We call on Lagosians, who are bearing the brunt of the ban to join the struggle against the ban. We call for sustained daily mass actions across different parts of Lagos State until the demand of reversal is won.

We call for formation of Action and Defence Committees to coordinate mass actions, defend the barricades and help  injured protesters to receive urgent medical care.

We are quick to warn the Lagos State Government to desist from utilising ethnic profiling in alleging that Okada or Maruwa drivers from the Northern part of the country are responsible for insecurity.

We are of the view that the action of Lagos State Government in imposing ban is deepening a social  base for terrorism. We have on our hands "Boko Haram", may we not have on our hands a "Boko Lagos".

Ogunlana Adesina Ademola,  Chairman of the Radical Agenda Movement in the Nigerian Bar Association and Presidential aspirant in the forthcoming 2020 national elections  graced the January 2020 Branch  Meeting .

The meeting which featured a Special Interactive Session on "Insurance for Lawyers" with Lead way  Assure brought again to the front burner the safety of lawyers in the exercise of their professional duties.

Mr. Ogunlana, who was recognised by the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association , Ota Branch for the role he played in the Bad Roads Protest organised by the Branch against the terrible state of roads in the Branch.

In his speech, Mr. Ogunlana raised the pertinent question, "If Nigeria is an individual, who can insure Nigeria?", he tasked lawyers to play their role by becoming active agents in the social salvation mission of Nigeria , which is the only way lawyers can ensure their individual safety.

Ogunlana reiterated his #RadicalAgenda to the Nigerian Bar Association to lead the Association to play its historic role as a vanguard of the social rescue mission in Nigeria.

In a related development, Mr. Ogunlana has condemned the abduction of the  Vice Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association, Jalingo Branch, Zainab Kishimi by kidnappers.

According to media reports, the incident took place at her residence at about 2:00am on Friday the 31st day of January, 2020.

Zainab Kishimi is a Principal State counsel with the Taraba State Ministry of Justice and a committed member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Taraba State.

Mr. Ogunlana called on both the leadership of her Branch, Jalingo Branch and the national leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association to mount pressure on all respective authorities to secure the release of the counsel.

OGUNLANA GRACES NBA CALABAR BRANCH BAR WEEK'S PUBLIC LECTURE AS #RADICAL AGENDA GAINS WIDER ECHO

Mr. Ogunlana used the occasion to reiterate his RadicalAgenda to lead the Nigerian Bar Association into battle against the avalanche of attacks and living conditions, which sections of the ruling elite will unfurl in the 2020 and beyond .
